Texas Officer Tragically Slain During Funeral Procession

ANGLETON, Texas — The Angleton Police Department is grappling with the tragic death of Sgt. J.D. White, who died in the line of duty on Sunday.
While escorting a funeral procession, White was struck by a vehicle. He was subsequently airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he succumbed to his injuries.
White dedicated 19 years to the department, gaining recognition for his leadership and commitment to community service. His involvement in the Shop with a Cop program particularly highlighted his compassion for children, according to a statement from the police department.
During his career, White held various positions, notably serving as Sergeant of Professional Integrity and Public Information Officer.
“This is a tremendous loss for Angleton and the Angleton community,” stated Police Chief Lupe Valdez. “Sgt. White was a trusted officer and a compassionate leader who brought heart to every aspect of his work.”
The police chief emphasized White’s ability to connect with and uplift youth through community initiatives.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the accident.
