Mom: Texas boy shot in the head while eating Happy Meal asked God not to let him die

A 7-year-old boy is currently hospitalized in Houston following a gunshot wound to the head. The incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning, has left the community in shock.

Divina, the boy’s mother, recounted the horrifying moments as she and her daughter unloaded groceries upon returning home. In their north Houston apartment, the children, eager for their Happy Meals, rushed upstairs. Within moments, gunfire erupted, compelling them to race back to the upstairs apartment.

Finding her son injured and screaming has shaken Divina to her core. “Por que a mi dice. Dios sana por favor. Sálvame por favor no me quiero morir,” she recalled her son pleading with God for life. Medical staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital worked quickly to address a fractured skull and continue assessing for potential brain damage.

Authorities indicate that the gunfire originated from a shootout between two groups near the apartment complex, leading to multiple shots being fired. Investigators discovered bullet holes in the building and a nearby fence. Despite the timing of the incident, as police continue their investigation, no suspects have yet been identified.

The struggle has intensified for Divina, a single mother balancing two jobs while raising three children. The family had just returned from work when the shooting occurred. Tragically, the boy was simply sitting on the couch eating Chicken McNuggets when the bullet came through the glass door.

A nearby resident who responded to the sounds of gunfire reported trying to assist the injured child. As she tried to keep him conscious, she shouted, “What happened, baby? What happened? Are you OK?”

In light of the ongoing investigation, the Houston Police Department along with Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification and apprehension of the suspects. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact 713-222-TIPS (8477).
