'Frightening': Police respond to shooting inside Sky Harbor Airport

PHOENIX — On Christmas night, emergency responders rushed to Sky Harbor Airport after gunfire was reported inside Terminal 4. The Phoenix Police Department received the call at 9:41 p.m., prompting a swift response and a temporary closure of the terminal.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene. One traveler recounted being informed of an active shooter upon entering the terminal and was promptly evacuated. Fortunately, police later confirmed that there was no ongoing threat, and the area was secured.

“No suspects are being sought, and airport operations have returned to normal,” announced the police department via a post on X. Following the incident, several passengers expressed their shock and concern as they witnessed a “badly injured” individual being transported by ambulance.

Gabriella Uloa, who was at the airport to drop off family, shared her feelings of fear, especially during the holiday season when many are eager to reunite with loved ones. “It’s frightening because it’s the holidays. Everyone wants to get home,” she remarked.

As of now, Terminal 4 has reopened, and Sky Harbor Airport provided a statement detailing the incident. It confirmed the police response to the gunshot reports in Terminal 4, leading to a temporary closure of the A security checkpoint and a pause in PHX Sky Train® operations.

A public information officer from the Phoenix Police Department is expected to address the media shortly for further updates on the situation.

This is a developing story.
