Tempe police officer arrested for DUI weeks after being honored by MADD

Officer Zachary Hyde was off-duty at the time of his arrest, according to the Tempe Police Department.

TEMPE, Ariz. — A striking revelation has surfaced regarding Officer Zachary Hyde from the Tempe Police Department. Hyde, who had recently been commended by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for his contributions, was arrested for DUI on July 31 while off-duty.

The arrest was made by the Department of Public Safety (DPS), casting a shadow on Hyde’s otherwise sterling record. Just weeks prior, he had been one of two officers receiving the Hero Award at MADD’s 35th annual Law Enforcement Recognition banquet in June, highlighting his efforts in combating drunk driving.

Following his arrest, Officer Hyde has been placed on administrative leave. This decision is part of the standard protocol as an internal affairs investigation begins. Concurrently, DPS will oversee the DUI investigation to ensure unbiased scrutiny.
