Tempe City Council Subcommittee Meetings

Tempe, AZ – Residents of Tempe are encouraged to participate in upcoming meetings of two City Council Subcommittees, aimed at addressing community needs and enhancing local policies.

These Subcommittee meetings serve as a platform for City Council members to formulate policies aligned with Tempe’s strategic objectives while also improving residents’ quality of life. Open to the public, these meetings adhere to Arizona’s Open Meeting Law.

The City currently has two active Council Subcommittees.

Increased Advocacy for Tempe Youth with Disabilities

A series of meetings began in August 2024, where families, led by Councilmember Berdetta Hodge, sought assistance from the city and local school districts to support the educational and career aspirations of their children with disabilities. This subcommittee aims to develop strategies that help youth with disabilities and their families access available resources more effectively.

Additionally, it plans to explore partnerships between the City of Tempe and local educational institutions. Councilmember Hodge chairs this initiative, with Mayor Corey Woods as a member.

Nuisance Ordinance

This task force included personnel from various city departments such as Community Health and Human Services, Tempe Police Department, and Code Enforcement. Two neighborhood meetings highlighted community concerns regarding homes that frequently generate calls for police and fire services.

This subcommittee is tasked with developing a nuisance ordinance intended to safeguard neighborhood integrity. Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid leads this initiative, supported by Mayor Corey Woods and Councilmember Arlene Chin.
