Teenager Gunned Down in South Phoenix Tragedy

Phoenix police responded to a shooting call near 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road on Sunday morning.

PHOENIX — A 17-year-old boy is dead following a shooting in south Phoenix, authorities said.

Phoenix police officers responded to a shooting call around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday near 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road. When officers got to the scene, they found a teenager with a gunshot wound in a vehicle, police said.

Officers also found a woman who had information regarding the shooting. The fire department treated the victim, identified as 17-year-old Aidan Apel, but he died at the scene from his injuries.

Officers detained a juvenile boy who allegedly admitted to shooting Apel. He was arrested and the case remains under investigation.
