Teen Murder Victim Investigated for Armed Assault Days Before Tragic Death, Records Reveal
Newly uncovered police reports reveal that 16-year-old Esteban Valenzuela, fatally shot in Maricopa Meadows on November 22, was previously identified as a suspect in a violent incident involving his brother. This incident, which escalated to a significant police response, occurred roughly nine months prior.
According to the documents and family interviews, Valenzuela allegedly held his older brother, Anthony, at gunpoint, prompting an emergency call from their mother, Aurora Martinez. The police were dispatched to their Dirk Street home on February 23 after she reported the alarming situation.
During the incident, Anthony claimed that Esteban entered his room aggressively, seizing a handgun and pointing it at him. This confrontation intensified the concern for the safety of their sister and two young children who were present in the house at the time.
Officers arrived, handcuffed both siblings, and conducted a search of the residence with their mother’s permission. Officer Rene Ordonez’s report highlighted the discovery of various items potentially linked to vehicle burglaries, in addition to an unsecured firearm and ammunition.
Investigators also found vape cartridges in the children’s room, indicating a troubling environment. As a result, authorities filed charges against Esteban for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and weapons misconduct; however, the details remain sealed due to his age.
Further investigation into the November incident reveals that Valenzuela’s murder was connected to a vape-related armed robbery. Currently, two of the four individuals arrested in connection with his death are being prosecuted as adults.
