Team USA announces flag bearers for Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony

A pair of gold medalists will lead Team USA at the Closing Ceremony.

PARIS, France — Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead are set to lead Team USA as flag bearers for the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

Ledecky secured four swimming medals, while Mead helped the U.S. break a 64-year gold medal drought in men’s four rowing. The pair was chosen by their fellow U.S. Olympians.

“I am incredibly honored to represent Team USA as a flag bearer as we close our time in Paris together,” said Ledecky. “I am so proud of this team’s accomplishments in Paris and excited to celebrate with my teammates on Sunday.”

Team USA shared a video of American swimmer Bobby Finke calling Ledecky to inform her of her selection as a flag bearer.

“I’m here at open water and you’re making me cry,” an emotional Ledecky responded to Finke upon hearing the news.

Nick Mead made history by being the first rower ever to be selected as a flag bearer for Team USA. “I got chills,” Mead said after hearing the news from his teammates.

During the Opening Ceremony, tennis star Coco Gauff and basketball legend LeBron James had the honor of leading Team USA as flag bearers.

The Closing Ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. EDT on Sunday and is expected to last until 5:15 p.m. EDT.

The event will be held at the Stade de France, home of the track and field competition for the Paris Olympics. Unlike the ambitious Opening Ceremony on the Seine River, the Closing Ceremony will offer a more traditional setting.

Highlights will include the athletes’ parade and the handover of the Olympic flag to organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Games. There will also be a medal presentation ceremony for the women’s marathon from earlier in the day.
