Team USA sets world record in 4x400 mixed relay

Beyond bragging rights, all the record did was place the Americans in Saturday’s final.

SAINT-DENIS, France — The U.S. mixed 4×400 meter relay team set a world record that might only be temporary.

Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bryce Deadmon, and Kaylyn Brown completed the relay in 3 minutes, 7.41 seconds on Friday, surpassing the previous record of 3:08.80 set at last year’s world championships.

This record-setting performance secured the Americans’ spot in Saturday’s final. However, the relatively new event, only established five years ago, may see its record broken again soon.

Kaylyn Brown anchored the team to victory, sealing the moment with a new world record for the United States in the mixed 4x400m relay.

The track used for the event has sparked conversations about its speed.

Will more world records fall on this lightning-fast surface? Only time will reveal.

Mondo’s experts developed a unique upper layer using elastic and cohesive rubber granules, designed to help Olympians run faster, leap further, and jump higher. It’s a nod to the Olympic motto: “Faster, higher, stronger — together.”

However, performance still depends on the athletes themselves. “It’s not the track that’s fast, it’s the runners who are fast,” emphasized Lewis.

Three years ago in Tokyo, a similarly quick track saw three world records and twelve Olympic records shattered.
