Team USA Shatters Decades-Long Record with Most Medals in a Single Saturday

If it seemed like Team USA won a lot of medals on Saturday, that’s because they did!
PARIS, France — The United States expanded its lead in the overall medal count on Saturday at the Paris Olympics with numerous podium appearances.
Team USA won 17 medals on Saturday, marking its highest single-day Olympic medal haul since Oct. 1, 1988, during the Seoul Olympics, according to the team.
Out of the 27 medal events held on Saturday, the United States clinched at least one medal in 12 of them.
As of the end of competition on Saturday, the U.S. leads with 61 total medals, followed by France with 41 and China with 37.
However, the U.S. trails China in the gold medal tally, with Americans having won 14 gold medals so far and Chinese Olympians securing 16.
