Tased in a Flash: Shocking Bodycam Footage Captures Tipsy Trespasser’s Downfall
Maricopa police have arrested 41-year-old Johnny Contreras following an incident at a local Walmart on March 2. Body-worn camera footage released recently depicts the moments leading up to Contreras’ arrest, highlighting the interactions between him and the responding officers.
Contreras was reportedly using a park bench near the cart return as a makeshift barstool while consuming a Steel Reserve beer. The officers approached him after he had previously been removed from the store located at 41650 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.
As the footage reveals, the situation escalated when Contreras stood up quickly to grab his ID card. This prompted officers to tackle him to the ground. During this struggle, Contreras expressed frustration, stating, “Treat me like a human,” while responding officers attempted to restrain him.
The encounter intensified when officers deployed a taser into Contreras’ back. Following the incident, he was examined at Exceptional Community Hospital, where medical staff concluded that he was “fine.”
Contreras faced serious charges, including felony resisting arrest and misdemeanor public drinking, which could have resulted in a sentence of up to 22 months in prison. However, in a plea deal made on June 19 in Maricopa Municipal Court, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespass.
