Tanner Chapel AME Honors 33 Years of Dedication by Thomas

On a significant Sunday, the Reverend Benjamin N. Thomas Sr., Pastor of Tanner Chapel AME Church, was celebrated for his 33 years of devoted service during an Appreciation Sunday coinciding with his birthday. The day’s theme, “A GODLY LEADER – Serving and Leading with Commitment, Dedication, Sacrifice, and Contagious Praise,” set a spirited tone for the occasion.
The celebration featured uplifting performances, including praise-filled songs by the Tanner Male Chorus and a powerful dance presentation by the Dance Ministry, led by Sister Jacqueline Jack, who performed “Anointed Vessels.” Rev. Benjamin “BJ” Thomas Jr., Pastor of Bethel AME Church in Oxnard, California, brought a poignant message, honoring his parents and referencing Acts 20: 18-27. His sermon, titled “Giving You the Best that I Got,” highlighted the dedication exemplified by Paul and emphasized that true dedication often involves overcoming challenges.
Rev. “BJ” shared insightful points on dedication, suggesting the importance of understanding individual ministry and strengths, maintaining humility in the face of success, and remaining faithful to one’s vision—emphasizing that growth comes from stepping outside of comfort zones. His encouragement to the congregation also acknowledged the years of support received from Tanner Chapel’s members.
Following his message, Pastor Thomas and his wife, Sister Beverly, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during their leadership. “Last year at this time, I was in the hospital and had a number of surgeries,” Pastor Thomas reflected. “We are thankful for GOD’s Grace in all things.”
The festivities continued in the Fellowship Hall, where attendees enjoyed food and refreshments, marking the occasion with a warm celebration organized by the Tanner Steward Board.
