Gina Swoboda, the current chair of the Republican Party of Arizona, is set to run for re-election in January, a move that has garnered support from prominent party figures and the President-elect, Donald Trump. This announcement came earlier this month from Garrett Archer of ABC15 News, sparking excitement among Arizona Republicans.

Support for Swoboda has been palpable, with Arizona Senate President Pro-Tempore T.J. Shope declaring, “She has Donald Trump’s support and she has my support! Let’s all rally behind Gina Swoboda for AZGOP Chair!!!” Similarly, State Representative Teressa Martinez praised her leadership, stating, “Gina Swoboda has done an amazing job and I absolutely back her for Chairwoman of the AZGOP!” Arizona State Senator Janae Shamp expressed confidence in Swoboda, emphasizing, “The Boss knows she is the best woman for the job! Looking forward to winning 2026 with Gina Swoboda as the State Party Chair!” State Senators Wendy Rogers and Frank Carroll also endorsed her candidacy.

Swoboda assumed the role of chair unexpectedly in January after a vacancy occurred. With Trump’s endorsement, she won the subsequent snap election easily. Her primary goal has been to ensure Arizona’s electoral votes went to Trump, a task she successfully accomplished in the recent General Election. Following the election, she articulated her belief in Arizonans’ commitment to their values, stating, “This victory is a testament to the grit and determination of Arizonans who believe in the American Dream.”

After Trump secured Arizona, Swoboda reflected on the monumental achievement, expressing her gratitude for Trump’s belief in her leadership. Trump himself praised her efforts during a visit to Tempe, highlighting her role in mobilizing voters, particularly for early voting.

Under Swoboda’s leadership, Republicans gained significant ground in the recent elections, outperforming their 2016 results. This included expanded majorities in the state legislature and sustained positions for incumbent Republican U.S. Congress members. With crucial statewide offices up for grabs in 2026, her impending re-election bid will likely face competition from State Representative Cory McGarr, who recently announced his candidacy after losing his seat in the Arizona Legislature.

The upcoming AZGOP meeting in Phoenix will be pivotal as party members decide on their leadership for the next election cycle. The chair position will play a significant role in shaping the Republican strategy to reclaim key statewide offices.
