Suspect dead after being shot by police in Sun City, Phoenix PD says

PHOENIX — A suspect was shot and killed by Phoenix police during an officer-involved incident following a pursuit linked to a shooting report on Sunday morning. The confrontation occurred in Sun City, subsequent to a chase that began near Thunderbird Road and 49th Avenue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to initial reports of gunfire in the area before locating a vehicle that had fled from the scene. Eyewitnesses helped authorities identify the vehicle, prompting officers to attempt a traffic stop. The driver, however, refused to comply, leading to a pursuit.

That chase concluded near a CVS location at 99th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, where the suspect abandoned the vehicle. He exited while armed with a firearm and attempted to flee on foot.

As the officers approached, the suspect allegedly produced his weapon, resulting in officers discharging their firearms. The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In this incident, authorities reported that no police officers were injured. The investigation is ongoing, and the area surrounding the shooting will remain closed for an extended period.

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
