A suspect has been arrested in relation to an arson incident at a Tesla dealership in Mesa earlier this week. Mesa Police responded on Monday to reports of an explosion, leading them to a burning Cybertruck on the dealership lot. Witnesses reported smoke and flames near the building, which turned out to be from the vehicle itself.

The Mesa Fire Department quickly contained the blaze to the Cybertruck, ensuring it did not spread to the dealership structure. Fire crews promptly checked the interior for any signs of smoke or heat but found no additional threats.

Notably, the side of the building bore the misspelled word “thief” spray-painted, raising suspicions. Mesa officials are treating the fire as potential arson. Later that day, police arrested 35-year-old Ian Moses, charging him with arson of a structure and property.

During their investigation, detectives spotted a suspicious van parked nearby. Surveillance footage revealed Moses approaching the van, leading to his identification as the suspected arsonist.

No injuries were reported due to the fire. Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives are collaborating with the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, Gilbert Fire and Rescue, and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on this case.
