Suspect Hurls Cash from Car During High-Speed Police Chase in Robbery Drama
In a dramatic series of events, two armed robberies culminated in a high-speed chase and eventual arrest in Lake Havasu City this week. Authorities report that the suspect, while being pursued Monday afternoon, attempted to discard the stolen money by tossing it out of his vehicle’s window.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department received its first call at around 5 p.m. regarding an armed robbery at the 1500 block of South Palo Verde Boulevard. As officers were en route to the scene, a second armed robbery was reported on the 700 block of North Lake Havasu Avenue. Witnesses from both locations described a vehicle matching the same specifications.
Upon locating a vehicle that matched the witness descriptions near North Lake Havasu Avenue, officers initiated a pursuit. During the chase, the suspect was visibly seen throwing cash from his vehicle’s window.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Tony L. Crawford, eventually stopped his car on the 3000 block of Mescalero Drive. He peacefully surrendered to the police and deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
Crawford faces multiple charges, including two counts of armed robbery, two counts of disorderly conduct with a weapon, four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a felon, and unlawful flight from law enforcement.
City officials confirm that Crawford made his initial court appearance and has been transferred to the Mohave County Jail in Kingman, with bail set at $100,000.
Although a portion of the stolen money has been recovered, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the total amount taken during the robberies as of Tuesday evening.
Police assure the public that Crawford acted alone, and there is no further threat to the community in relation to these incidents.
