Who is going to Super Bowl LIX?

WASHINGTON — The Philadelphia Eagles have secured their spot in Super Bowl LIX after defeating the Washington Commanders 55-23. Fans now eagerly await the conclusion of the Kansas City Chiefs versus Buffalo Bills game, which will determine the Eagles’ opponent.

The Super Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, February 9, kicking off at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time. New Orleans, Louisiana, will host the event at the Caesars Superdome, marking the city’s 11th time as the Super Bowl host and the eighth instance of the Superdome welcoming the championship game.

The Eagles last appeared in the Super Bowl in 2023, where they faced the Chiefs and lost 38-35. This marks their second conference championship game appearance in three years and the ninth in the franchise’s history.

While the Eagles claimed their first Super Bowl victory in 2018, they previously reached the big game in 2005 and 1981. Notably, Sunday’s game was their fifth NFC title contest at Lincoln Financial Field since its opening in 2003.

On the Kansas City front, the Chiefs are pursuing a historic three-peat in the Super Bowl era. This year also marks the seventh consecutive season in which quarterback Patrick Mahomes has led them to the AFC championship game. Last year, they triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in an overtime thriller, followed by a close victory against the Eagles in 2023.

The Buffalo Bills are aiming for their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994. The team infamously reached four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991 to 1994 but has yet to secure a win, sharing this record with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Washington Commanders have not experienced a conference championship game since 1991, with only a handful of current players alive during their last appearance. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, picked second overall in the 2024 draft, aimed to make history by leading his team to the Super Bowl, becoming only the sixth rookie to reach a conference championship.

The Commanders last played in the Super Bowl in 1992, defeating the Bills 37-34. They also reached the championship match in 1973, 1983, 1984, and 1988.

Fans will be able to watch Super Bowl LIX on FOX, which will also be livestreamed via the FOX Sports App.

In entertainment news, Kendrick Lamar is set to headline the halftime performance, sharing the stage with multi-Grammy winner SZA. The pair have previously collaborated on hits like “All the Stars” and plan to co-headline a 19-city tour beginning April 19. This year’s halftime show follows a star-studded performance by Usher in 2023, showcasing an array of special guests.
