Suns star Kevin Durant reportedly buys minority ownership stake in soccer club Paris-St. Germain

In a surprising twist during his quest for Olympic glory, Kevin Durant, the star of the Phoenix Suns, has made headlines with a new business venture. Reports suggest that Durant has acquired a minority stake in one of France’s premier soccer clubs, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

On August 5, while in Paris preparing for the Summer Olympics, Durant visited PSG’s training ground, Campus Paris-Saint Germain. This visit coincided with significant Olympic matches, including the USA’s quarterfinal victory over Brazil. However, the trip was not solely for Olympic support; it was also an opportunity for Durant to explore investment possibilities within the iconic football club.

According to sources, including The Athletic’s Peter Rutzler and Shams Charania, Durant’s investment is facilitated through his firm, Boardroom Sports Holdings, LLC. This investment comes through Arctos Sports Partners, which had previously acquired a 12.5% stake in PSG in 2023.

PSG’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, expressed enthusiasm about Durant’s involvement. He praised the NBA star as an “inspirational athlete” and emphasized the shared values between Durant and the PSG organization.

Despite the lack of an official announcement from PSG regarding Durant’s investment, Boardroom’s social media account has confirmed the news, indicating that further details will emerge soon.

This venture marks a continuation of Durant’s interest in sports ownership. It’s worth noting that he previously visited PSG in 2015, demonstrating a long-standing connection to the club.

Durant joins a growing list of American athletes and celebrities who have turned their attention to European soccer investments. Notable examples include J.J. Watt and Tom Brady, who have both taken equity stakes in clubs across the pond.

As Durant expands his portfolio in global sports, the Phoenix sports scene remains robust. Phoenix is home to a multitude of professional sports franchises, including the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals and the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, alongside major events like the WM Phoenix Open and various college football festivities.
