Suni Lee Challenges Gymnastics Judges Over Potential Jordan Chiles Bronze Medal Revocation

USA Gymnastics expressed deep disappointment following a court ruling that may cost Jordan Chiles her Olympic bronze medal, committing to support her through this challenging period.
WASHINGTON — In a shocking development, American gymnast Jordan Chiles could lose her Olympic bronze medal after the sports governing court ruled that the U.S. challenge to her score was filed too late.
This decision adds to the drama that has enveloped the women’s floor exercise competition, extending the uncertainty nearly a week after the medals were awarded.
Jordan Chiles has yet to comment directly on the ruling. However, she posted broken heart emojis on her Instagram story and announced a break from social media for her mental health.
“I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health. Thank you,” wrote Chiles.
Following the competition, the 23-year-old faced online harassment, including calls to return the medal and racist remarks. Earlier this week, Chiles tweeted, “it’s funny how people can still never be happy for someone.”
Chiles’ mother, Gina Chiles, defended her daughter against the derogatory comments. “My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched. And she’s being called disgusting things,” she wrote.
Olympic teammate Suni Lee voiced her support for Chiles, blaming the judges for the controversy. “All this talk about the athlete, what about the judges?? Completely unacceptable. This is awful and I’m gutted for Jordan. I got your back forever Jo. U have all my flowers and you will ALWAYS be an Olympic champion,” Lee posted on Instagram.
Bernice King, daughter of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., also stood by Chiles. “You are a champion,” she wrote on X, previously known as Twitter. “You suggested one of the most memorable, love-centered moments in sports history. No matter what happens next, you are great, now and forever. And the error of others does not change your character.” King expressed gratitude for Chiles’ example.
USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee issued a joint statement on X, expressing devastation over the ruling and pledging ongoing support for Chiles. “Throughout the appeal process, Jordan has been subject to consistent, utterly baseless and extremely hurtful attacks on social media. No athlete should be subject to such treatment,” the statement read. “We condemn the attacks and those who engage, support, or instigate them. We commend Jordan for conducting herself with integrity both on and off the competition floor, and we continue to stand by and support her.”
