Sunday Sunshine Heralds Dramatic Shifts Ahead

Sunday sunshine, then big changes

A winter storm system is poised to affect Arizona with snow in high elevations and some much-needed rain in the Valley. After a long dry spell, weather patterns are shifting.

On Sunday, the Valley saw sunny skies, but a change is expected as rain showers are anticipated by Monday morning. This rainfall, though minimal at up to 0.25 inches, will mark an end to a 156-day stretch without measurable precipitation, the second-longest dry period recorded.

The forecast indicates the showers will persist intermittently through Wednesday, as this system brings unsettled weather across the state. Residents can expect dry spells amid the rain, keeping the atmosphere dynamic.

In the high country, snow levels are forecasted to start around 5,000 feet, descending to about 4,000 feet by midweek. Flagstaff and Prescott are likely to see 1-2 inches of snow through Monday night. Mohave County has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, projecting 3-7 inches of snowfall above 6,000 feet, with lesser amounts expected down to 4,000 feet.

Looking ahead, here’s a snapshot of the seven-day forecast:

SUNDAY: 70°F / 45°F – Mainly sunny

MONDAY: 63°F / 44°F – Isolated rain showers

TUESDAY: 63°F / 43°F – Partly cloudy, a few showers

WEDNESDAY: 62°F / 42°F – Partly cloudy, a few showers

THURSDAY: 64°F / 42°F – Mostly sunny

SATURDAY: 67°F / 45°F – Mostly cloudy and seasonal

With conditions subject to change, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the evolving weather situation. Reports of severe weather, including thunderstorms and floods, can be consulted from various sources across Arizona.
