Summertime Bliss: Dive into Fun at Your Local Community Pool

As summer temperatures climb, residents and visitors in Sedona have the perfect opportunity to cool off at the Sedona Community Pool, located at 570 Posse Ground Road. Operated by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department and owned by the Sedona-Oak Creek School District, the pool officially opened for the season on May 24.
Admission fees are structured affordably, with youth and seniors paying $2, and adults $3 per visit. Aqua fitness classes cost $5, while group swim lessons are available for $35 for an eight-class series. Private lessons are priced at $20 for a 30-minute session or $15 per person for pairs.
“We started water aerobics a bit earlier this year, and we’ve already seen participation,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Josh Frewin. “The schedule includes swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swimming, and open swim. This year offers slightly extended hours, opening earlier and closing later. Our lifeguard team is fantastic, and we’re anticipating a fun-filled summer.”
The pool will be closed on Mondays for maintenance, remaining accessible Tuesday through Sunday until August 4. The weekday schedule is packed, featuring lap swimming from 8 to 9 a.m. and noon to 1:15 p.m., along with fitness classes at 9:15 a.m., and group lessons at various times throughout the day.
Each day’s fitness classes begin at 9:15 a.m. for just $5, encompassing Aqua Zumba on Tuesdays, water yoga on Wednesdays, and traditional water aerobics on Thursdays and Fridays. Saturdays cater to infants aged 6 months to 2 years with StarBabies and Star Tots classes at 9 a.m., costing $5. Following that, lap swim runs from 9:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with open swim from 1 to 7 p.m. Sundays offer similar lap and open swim hours.
Private lessons are available from Tuesday to Friday, between 1:30 and 4:45 p.m., for $20 each. Registration opens each Sunday via phone at (928) 203-5096, with drop-in availability encouraged but subject to confirmation.
Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor Carmen Brashier noted that pool staffing has stabilized, with 23 certified lifeguards on duty since mid-April. The department achieved a retention rate of 78% from the previous season, a significant improvement after past staffing shortages led to pool closures.
This year, the city offers an incentive program for lifeguards, providing bonuses of up to $1,500 for those committing to work through the extended summer. Lifeguards maintaining their positions through August will earn $1,000, while continued service until September nets $1,200, and those fulfilling obligations through October will receive the full $1,500.
For 2025, a sensory-free zone at the pool will be available during operational hours to assist individuals sensitive to sensory overstimulation. The Parks and Recreation Department proudly holds certification as a Certified Autism Center through its collaboration with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.
