High school's favorite custodian surprised with car from students

VIENNA, Va. — In an extraordinary display of gratitude, students at James Madison High School gifted their custodian, Francis, with a cherry red Jeep Wrangler, fulfilling his long-held dream.

The heartwarming initiative began in September 2023 when a group of freshmen engaged in casual conversation with Francis. During those discussions, he mentioned his upcoming birthday and expressed a desire for a Jeep Wrangler, which he identified as his ultimate goal in life.

Motivated by his dream, the students collectively resolved to make it a reality. They launched a GoFundMe campaign, rallying support from friends and parents, who further shared the initiative across various networks. Within two days, the campaign raised an impressive $5,000.

After months of dedicated fundraising efforts, the initiative culminated in a total of $20,000 raised by Saturday. Partnering with a local dealership allowed the students to secure the coveted vehicle just in time for fall.

The surprise took place on a Tuesday in the parking lot of the Vienna Inn, where the students unveiled the Jeep to an emotional Francis. Overwhelmed with joy, he remarked, “Today is a wonderful day in my life, and I will never forget it.”

Students expressed their excitement, noting, “I’m excited to see him whipping it around at school; he really deserves it.”
