St. Luke's relocates patients amid weekend HVAC issues

PHOENIX — St. Luke’s Behavioral Health facility encountered significant HVAC system issues, necessitating the relocation of 98 patients. The problem arose with the facility’s chillers, which malfunctioned late last week. Over the weekend, a new chiller was successfully installed, but cooling the facility was still in progress by Sunday evening.

Given the extreme heat, St. Luke’s decided to move patients as a precautionary measure. “As that process continues, and out of an abundance of caution related to the heat, we have safely relocated 98 patients to other behavioral health facilities, consistent with our patient safety protocols,” the facility stated. “As always, the health and safety of all our patients remains paramount, and we’ll work to keep our patients, their families, and the community informed as we continue to address this issue.”

As of Monday, it remains unclear when patients will return to St. Luke’s.
