SRRHS hosts annual students’ Fine Arts Night on Dec. 18

Sedona Red Rock High School is set to host its annual Winter Concert and Student Showcase on Wednesday, December 18. This event aims to highlight student achievements in the fine arts. The festivities will commence with a photography and art exhibit in the lobby starting at 5 p.m., followed by an orchestra performance at 6 p.m.

Cody McKesson, the orchestra and music teacher, emphasizes the event’s community collaboration. “Your attendance gets you a ticket into a raffle with local businesses providing free services,” he noted. Prizes include a full auto car detail, horseback rides through Sedona trails, and guided stargazing tours, along with local art portraits up for grabs. “There’s just a lot of community raffling off their things simply for going to the concert,” McKesson added.

Themed “Dashing Through Sedona,” the concert will showcase holiday music performed by both middle and high school students. McKesson is particularly proud of the middle school group, stating, “This group has shown the most improvement during my time here. I’m excited to see their progress into the spring and next year.”

The diverse program features a selection of classical and holiday pieces including Jacques Offenbach’s “Barcarolle” and the Russian Dance from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” Solo performances will spotlight students such as Logan Jankowski with Camille Saint-Saëns’ “L’Éléphant,” and Khrystian Cordova in Mussorgsky’s “Un Larme.” A unique collaboration will also see McKesson and student Lotus Flores perform “Adoration” by Florence Price.

The event promises to bring the community closer, showcasing the hard work of the students. McKesson invites everyone to enjoy the performance, stating, “If you like holiday music, you’ll be happy. If you want to feel involved in the community, come here and enjoy their show.”
