Space Travelers Union, SunCHower, and Alassane Ignite 191 Toole with Unforgettable Musical Fusion

Local artists are set to showcase their eclectic musical styles at the Tucson Jazz Festival on Saturday, taking the stage at 191 Toole. Featured acts include the Space Travelers Union, SunCHower, and Alassane Diarra, offering a blend of genres that promises an engaging evening.
Ryan Wheless, founder of Space Travelers Union, emphasized the improvisational nature of their music. “Music is like a second language,” he stated, underlining his commitment to a collective approach that allows for varied artistic contributions. Each performance is distinctive, maintaining a fresh sound with every show.
SunCHower, led by drummer Casey Hadland, embodies a similar ethos. The collective frequently changes its lineup, infusing a diverse array of musicians into their performances. “SunCHower is always changing,” Hadland explained, highlighting the dynamic element that characterizes their shows.
While jazz takes center stage, the evening will also explore a multitude of genres, such as acoustic, art rock, electronic, punk, and R&B. Wheless shared that for many, jazz is a deeply personal experience shaped by the unique styles of the musicians involved. Drawing inspiration from fellow Tucson musicians, he reflects on the collaborative spirit within the local scene.
The event is designed to celebrate local talent, with Hadland incorporating visual elements through video projections. These will feature real footage edited to introduce a sense of glitch and distortion, enhancing the overall experience. Scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on January 18 at 191 E. Toole Ave, general admission tickets are priced at $22, while early access tickets are available for $27.
