Sorry, Circle K: Maricopa Chooses Quickie for Fast Fuel Stops

In a recent poll conducted by InMaricopa, QuikTrip emerged as the favorite gas station among local residents, receiving 46% of the votes. This recognition highlights the importance of accessible gas stations in Maricopa, renowned for being a “car-dependent city.” According to Walk Score, nearly 90% of locals commute outside the city for work, amplifying the need for convenient fueling options.
The poll, which attracted responses from 584 participants, reflected the preferences of Maricopans who frequent gas stations for both fuel and snacks. QuikTrip, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, stood out as the preferred choice for its quality offerings, including fuel and snacks. “I like QT best,” shared local resident Paul Cendejas-Pence, emphasizing the feeling of safety while paying at the pump and commending the helpful staff.
Fry’s Fuel Center secured the second position in the poll with 25% of the votes, while Circle K, despite its three existing and additional proposed locations in Maricopa, only managed to garner 13%. Local resident Eric Compton expressed his disdain, stating he would choose any gas station over Circle K. “I’m pretty sure my life expectancy goes down just driving past them,” he remarked humorously.
The remaining gas stations received a combined total of 15% of the votes. Terrible’s, which plans to expand into Maricopa, received 42 votes, followed by Chevron with 29 votes. In a surprising twist, electric vehicle charging stations attracted the least attention, gathering only 19 votes, or 3%, indicating that traditional fuel sources still reign supreme among Maricopa residents.
While Maricopa has over 800 registered electric vehicles, according to Arizona MVD records, the interest in EV charging options appears to lag significantly behind conventional fuel choices. This suggests that the city’s electric vehicle community has room for growth in mainstream acceptance.
