Sonoran flavor comes to Phoenix market

Available in six-packs of four distinct flavors – Sonoran Plain, Sonoran Sesame, Sonoran Everything, and Sonoran Focaccia – the new line of bagels at Chompie’s are produced in very limited quantities to ensure quality and freshness (submitted photo).

Chompie’s has launched a new line of Sonoran-style bagels in Phoenix, following a collaboration between Don Guerra of Barrio Bread and Neal Borenstein, head of Chompie’s bakery department. This partnership, which began in 2023, aims to expand the availability of these unique bagels that honor local flavors and heritage.

After months of development, Guerra and Borenstein perfected artisan recipes that utilize locally sourced ingredients. Central to their mission is the use of Arizona-grown Sonoran whole grain flour from Hayden Flour Mills, reflecting a commitment to bolster the local grain economy and support regional businesses.

Due to significant demand in Tucson, the partners have extended their offerings to the Valley. The bagels, made with meticulous care and available in limited quantities, can now be pre-ordered for pick-up at Chompie’s Phoenix location at 3212 E. Cactus Road.

Customers can choose from six-packs in flavors such as Sonoran Plain, Sonoran Sesame, Sonoran Everything, and Sonoran Focaccia. Pre-orders must be placed by noon the Wednesday prior to Saturday’s pick-up, available Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For inquiries, contact 602-710-2910 or check out Chompie’s website for details.
