City of Maricopa

Roadwork on Smith-Enke Road near John Wayne Parkway is progressing well, with significant improvements at the intersection nearing completion.

The project aims to enhance the intersection’s capacity, allowing for smoother traffic flow and increased safety. Anticipated completion is set for spring.

The planned enhancements include several key features:

  • Dedicated right turn lane: A new right-turn lane will facilitate uninterrupted flow for westbound traffic on Smith-Enke Road turning onto northbound John Wayne Parkway.
  • Additional left turn lane: A second left-turn lane will be introduced for southbound traffic onto John Wayne Parkway, aimed at reducing delays during peak hours.
  • Raised median and access road: A newly constructed raised median will serve to redirect traffic to a newly built entrance for CVS and the Maricopa Station shopping center, enhancing both visibility and safety.

On the west side of John Wayne Parkway along State Route 238, further improvements are in motion:

  • Extended median: The existing median will be lengthened, providing extra space for vehicles turning left onto northbound John Wayne Parkway.
  • Redirection of shopping center traffic: This extended median will guide westbound traffic to a safer secondary entrance for the Bashas’ shopping center, improving overall traffic management.

The city encourages residents to stay informed about the project’s status. Updates will be shared regularly to keep the community engaged.
