The John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road intersection is set for lane closures tonight, January 14, 2025, as crews finalize electrical work on new traffic signals. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during late-night hours.

According to the Maricopa Police Department, individual lane closures will occur in each direction beginning at 8 p.m. Driver inconvenience may be heightened when traffic signals are briefly shut off around 11 p.m. to facilitate the work.

“We advise people to be very cautious through the area, to go slow and watch for crews,” city spokesperson Monica Williams emphasized. Officers will be present to assist and monitor the situation throughout the night.

This construction effort is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the intersection’s ability to accommodate increased traffic volumes. The improvements include new left turn lanes and a recently opened “free flow” right turn lane onto northbound John Wayne Parkway.

The project, expected to conclude this spring, reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure enhancement. For more information, click here.
