Shot fired in dispute between Rancho Mirage neighbors; 1 arrested

On May 14, 2025, a significant police presence was reported at the intersection of Nina Street and Piccolo Drive in Rancho Mirage. Authorities arrested a local man following allegations that he fired a handgun into the ground during a dispute with his neighbor.

The Maricopa Police Department responded to multiple disturbance calls around 8:30 p.m. Witnesses described the scene as heavily policed, with officers blocking off several streets.

According to MPD spokesperson Monica Williams, the altercation escalated from a verbal disagreement to the man pulling out a handgun and shooting a round into the ground. This incident was serious but fortunately resulted in no injuries.

The suspect was arrested on multiple felony charges. By noon that day, the police had not yet released the detailed documents related to the case.

This recent incident is part of a concerning pattern in the area. Just days prior, another man was apprehended in Tortosa for allegedly discharging a firearm. Additionally, a drive-by shooting occurred in the same neighborhood shortly thereafter, believed to be linked to ongoing tensions between local residents.

Further complicating local safety, another gun-related incident was reported in Rancho El Dorado, where a suspect fled nearly 200 miles west to Quartzsite, Arizona, after a neighborhood gunfight.
