Man killed in Albertsons shooting was shopping for soda, wife says

Scottsdale Police have confirmed the tragic death of Robert Padilla, 35, following a shooting incident inside a local grocery store. The altercation, which took place at Scottsdale Crossing near Scottsdale and Thomas Roads, left another man critically injured.

Padilla, described by his wife Yvonne Garcia Padilla as a devoted husband and father of four, had left their home on Tuesday to buy soda for his mother-in-law. He never returned.

“Only if he never went to the store that day, Robert would still be here,” said a grief-stricken Garcia Padilla.

The confrontation reportedly began in the parking lot and escalated inside the Albertsons store. Both Padilla and another man engaged in a heated argument, which turned deadly.

Garcia Padilla recounted her husband’s final moments. “He tried to call his step-daughter. She answered, but it was just quiet, it was just quiet,” she said.

Both men were immediately transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Padilla succumbed to his injuries, while the other man remains in critical condition.

Investigations are ongoing as officers work to understand the cause of the dispute. It has been suggested that the incident may have stemmed from road rage.

In a poignant message, Garcia Padilla urged the public to manage their tempers and avoid violent confrontations. “People just need to be careful. They should be better drivers and better people. You never know who has a gun,” she stated.

A GoFundMe page has been created to assist Padilla’s family during this challenging time.
