Shooting at The Lakes This Thursday: Cops Urgently Pursue Leads in May 6th Incident

A shooting took place yesterday evening at The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado, confirmed by the Maricopa Police Department. This incident marks the sixth shooting reported in May.
At around 7:20 p.m., shots rang out near the intersection of Chase Drive and Smith-Enke Road. Authorities believe the gunfire may have originated from a road-rage incident that began within The Lakes and culminated at the entrance of the subdivision.
Police described two vehicles involved: a dark-colored sedan and possibly a silver or grey one. They encourage residents to check their home security footage and report any suspicious events.
“We’re investigating. Anyone with camera video or information is asked to contact us. No one was injured,” a spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department stated.
Although The Lakes has not been the focal point of the city’s rising gun violence—12 shootings have been reported since March 18—this incident contributes to an escalating pattern of gunfire in Maricopa. Previous incidents have mainly occurred south of the John Wayne Parkway and on the city’s East Side, as highlighted in an analysis by InMaricopa. A recent murder in Glendale further underscores the violence, as the suspect was apprehended in Maricopa’s Glennwilde neighborhood.
In response to the alarming trend, Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman published an op-ed on May 16, urging community members to seek peaceful solutions to personal disputes that appear to be underlying motivations in many of these shootings.
The police continue to investigate the recent shooting and are asking community members to remain vigilant, sharing any potentially helpful footage or information.
