Watch: Mom, son jailed after taser gun double shot

The Maricopa Police Department has released body camera footage capturing the December 13 arrest of a mother and her son, following a violent altercation during a custody exchange.

Jennifer Vyfhuis, 45, and her 18-year-old son, Portland Davis, were charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and obstructing parental access. Davis also faces an additional charge of resisting arrest after being subdued with a taser by police.

InMaricopa had submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for the footage shortly after the incident. The video reveals officers arriving at a residence on West Wild Horse Trail, attempting to deescalate the situation. Taser use was employed on both Davis and his elder brother, who were actively resisting police efforts.

The conflict erupted when the mother of Davis’s brother’s children arrived to collect her kids. Vyfhuis and Davis were identified as the aggressors in the confrontation, assaulting the children’s mother, who sustained injuries on her chest and neck.

Meanwhile, Davis’ 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend was detained but later released without charges.

The status of the legal proceedings remains unclear as court documents have not yet been made available.

The bodycam footage sheds light on the chaotic scene that day.
