Grandmother allegedly kills granddaughter in apparent domestic violence shooting in Buckeye, police say

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — In a tragic incident on Sunday evening, a grandmother reportedly shot and killed her granddaughter in what authorities are describing as a domestic violence case. The shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. near 254th Drive and Maricopa Road, which is located northwest of Baseline and Miller roads.

Officers responded promptly after receiving a 911 call. Witnesses reported hearing intense yelling before the line disconnected, suggesting a volatile situation inside the home. Upon arrival, police observed one woman surrendering with her hands raised.

Upon entering the residence, law enforcement discovered another woman in her 30s suffering from a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after. The investigation revealed a woman in her 70s, identified as the grandmother, found in another area of the home with a firearm nearby. She has since been taken into custody.

No names have been disclosed at this stage. Buckeye Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have issued warnings for the community to avoid the area as they conduct their inquiries.
