Sheriff: Dead dogs found in Gila Bend, suspect arrested

GILA BEND, Ariz. — Authorities have arrested a man following the discovery of dead dogs on a Gila Bend property. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to a report of suspected animal neglect on April 5. Upon inspection, deputies uncovered several dogs living in distressing conditions and without adequate food supply.

Tragically, some dogs reportedly resorted to consuming the remains of deceased companions. In total, MCSO discovered seven puppies, 11 adult dogs, and the remains of three dead canines. John D. Jackson, 38, now faces charges of animal cruelty related to this distressing case.

The sheriff’s office condemned the act, describing it as “disgusting and deplorable.” Sheriff Jerry Sheridan expressed outrage over the suffering endured by the animals and pledged to pursue justice swiftly. Furthermore, MCSO indicated that Jackson was allegedly using social media to sell dogs.

The surviving animals are currently under the care of MCSO, as investigations continue into the broader implications of this incident.
