Pinal County Sheriff Ross Teeple is en route to Washington, D.C., where he is set to attend President Donald J. Trump’s address to Congress.
Teeple accepted an invitation from U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, a Republican representing Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District. The congressman expressed his admiration for Teeple, highlighting the sheriff’s contributions to maintaining safety along Interstate 10, a vital route for trade and travel.
“The I-10, which runs through Pinal County, is a key corridor for trade, tourism, and local traffic, but it also faces challenges like drug trafficking,” said Ciscomani, who previously served as a senior advisor to Gov. Doug Ducey.
The relationship between Teeple and Ciscomani developed during last year’s campaign trail. According to Teeple, the congressman appreciated his ethical approach to campaigning, which fostered mutual respect.
Teeple described the invitation as “a once in a lifetime” opportunity, emphasizing the importance of local issues during the presidential address, scheduled for 6 p.m. Arizona time.
“Even though I’ll be in Washington to address national matters, I aim to bring attention to the issues that are crucial for Pinal County residents,” Teeple stated. He referenced discussions about potential federal partnerships and task forces intended to tackle local challenges.
This includes Governor Katie Hobbs’s recent executive order to establish a joint task force called Operation Desert Guardian. This initiative aims to enhance border security by collaborating with local law enforcement and federal agencies to combat transnational criminal organizations, although Pinal County is not specifically included in the affected areas.
“We’re still engaging in conversations to understand the implications of this initiative for our community,” Teeple remarked.
