Seven Hikers Saved in Dramatic SARA Park Rescue

Lake Havasu City Fire Department responded promptly to a distress call from SARA Park on Monday afternoon, rescuing seven hikers around 2:30 p.m. The situation unfolded when one hiker began to experience health issues during their trek back from the lake.
Tony Rivello, a retired fire department member present in the area, witnessed the emergency response and spoke with the battalion chief on-site. “They were about halfway back when one of the hikers started feeling unwell,” Rivello detailed.
A female hiker was identified as suffering from a heat-related injury, prompting immediate action from the rescue teams. According to a press release issued the following day, rescue side-by-sides safely escorted five of the hikers back to the trailhead, while the remaining two made their way back independently.
After the incident, Rivello took the opportunity to advise two hikers about safety precautions, emphasizing the need for awareness regarding the heat. “One hiker mentioned she was an experienced backpacker but underestimated the heat’s impact,” he recounted. “In my experience, we often rescue out-of-town hikers.”
The region experienced high temperatures, soaring into the low 100s, with readings hitting 105 degrees at the time of the rescue. This incident underscores the importance of hydration and preparedness for treks in extreme weather conditions.
