Sedona Red Rock High School Unveils First-Ever Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

The Sedona Red Rock High School (SRRHS) Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has unveiled its inaugural class for 2025, celebrating an impressive lineup of athletes who have left a significant mark on the school’s athletic legacy.
Chairman Harry Schneider, a long-standing track and field coach at SRRHS, shared that the committee, comprised of former coaches, administrators, and community members, has spent the past year selecting athletes who embody the spirit of the Scorpions since the school’s opening in 1994. “It seemed fitting to honor exceptional athletes and inspire future generations by establishing an athletic hall of fame,” Schneider remarked. He expressed gratitude to the Scorpion Booster Club for their support in this initiative.
The committee carefully considered candidates from SRRHS’s 30-plus years of athletic history, finally inducting nine remarkable athletes. The inaugural class of the SRRHS Hall of Fame includes:
- Kelly Busche (2002, swimming and track & field): A multi-sport athlete who achieved all-region honors in several events, including the 100-meter freestyle. She also made history by holding multiple individual swimming records at SRRHS and winning a championship at Northern Arizona University.
- Whitney Cooper (2012, softball): An all-state performer known for her outstanding hitting, she boasted a .561 batting average over her high school career, setting records that still stand today before playing at UMass.
- Kevin Cox (2010, track & field): A four-time letterwinner and state champion, he holds school records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. His collegiate career continued at Occidental College.
- Jake Grodzinsky (2003, golf): Two-time individual state champion and accomplished athlete at Duke University, he set impressive records both in high school and college.
- Carlos Lattanzi (2024, swimming): A standout swimmer headed to California State University-Bakersfield, he is a multiple state champion and holds several school records.
- Hannah Ringel (2017, track & field): A three-time state champion in shot put, she also excelled at Idaho, winning multiple championships in her discipline.
- Michael Sells (2001, basketball): With numerous accolades including all-state honors, he continues to hold several basketball records at SRRHS and played college basketball at Western New Mexico.
- Liza Westervelt (2018, basketball): A team captain and standout player, she achieved both academic and athletic success, currently advancing her medical education.
