The Sedona Police Department is marking National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donning specially designed pink patches. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to raising awareness about critical health issues.

Chief Stephanie Foley explained, “In October, we wear the pink patch, which is optional, and we also sell related merchandise like pens and key chains.” The proceeds from these sales are donated to a different organization each year, supporting various health awareness causes. “In September, we focus on Blue Patch awareness to highlight men’s health,” she noted, emphasizing the department’s efforts to promote health awareness for all genders.

The American Cancer Society reports that approximately 1 in 8 women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, underscoring the importance of such initiatives.

Residents can purchase SPD’s health awareness items at the Sedona Police Station located at 100 Roadrunner Drive. While these items are available year-round, the department intensifies sales efforts in October to finalize donations by the month’s end. Over the past five years, the department has raised around $1,000 annually through the sale of women’s health items. Foley also mentioned that this year marks the introduction of the men’s program.
