Sedona Parks & Rec preps egg hunt

The Sedona Parks and Recreation Department is set to host its 14th annual Celebration of Spring at Posse Grounds Park on April 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This vibrant event saw an impressive turnout last year, with an estimated 3,500 attendees, according to Special Events Coordinator Jason Vargo.

“For those new to the event, it promises a fun-filled atmosphere for all ages,” Vargo noted. “Few activities in Sedona bring the community together in such a joyful manner each year.”

This year’s Celebration will feature a variety of free outdoor attractions. Notably, children can enjoy an inflatable play area and participate in egg hunts with over 25,000 eggs hidden, including a new egg hunt specifically for high schoolers.

To ensure safety, traditional carnival rides have been removed. However, attendees can look forward to a zip line, a rock climbing wall, and a giant slide. A highlight of the event is the new Ninja Nation obstacle course, a 125-foot-long challenge designed with two lanes—one for ages five to 12, and the other for 13 and up. Participants must sign a waiver, which will be facilitated conveniently through QR codes.

The egg hunts will be staged throughout the morning, starting at 10:30 a.m. for the youngest participants and concluding with high schoolers at 12:30 p.m. In a bid to engage teens, Vargo mentioned that the Interact Club will assist in creating a designated area for their hunt.

A total of 144 eggs will contain tickets redeemable for prizes suitable for various age groups. While participants should bring their own baskets, cash is recommended for food, drinks, and activities like face painting.

“We’re excited to have our skilled face painter back, along with a carnival game trailer where games will cost $5 each,” Vargo added. Food vendors will also be present, providing a range of treats.

The Easter Bunny will make special appearances for photos and meet-and-greet sessions, scheduled at various times throughout the morning. In addition, the Free to Be Me Drum Circle will take place at the Posse Grounds Pavilion from noon to 2 p.m.

Volunteers play a crucial role at this event, and those interested can sign up through Volunteer Sedona and Verde Valley’s website. Responsibilities may include setting up booths, managing lines, and assisting with participant counting and trash collection.

Parking remains a concern during the event, so Vargo encourages attendees to utilize the Sedona Shuttle Connect for efficient transportation. “This option provides a convenient way for attendees to navigate the city,” he explained. A raffle will be held for shuttle riders, featuring a gift basket valued at $70 from a local grocery store.

On-site parking staff will be available to direct attendees to available parking spots, both within the park and off-site if necessary.
