Sean Eicher is raising funds for NoStigmas

Sedona-Oak Creek School District’s physical education teacher and track coach, Sean Eicher, is training rigorously this summer for the Chicago Marathon, aiming to complete the race in under two hours and 40 minutes. His effort is not only personal; it seeks to raise $2,000 for NoStigmas, a nonprofit focused on mental health awareness.

Eicher, 33, expressed excitement about the marathon, noting its reputation as the fastest course globally. “Both world records for the men’s and women’s marathon have been broken there,” he stated. Scheduled for October 12, this race presents an opportunity for Eicher to achieve a personal best, having previously completed a marathon in two hours and 43 minutes.

Training six days a week since 5 a.m., Eicher often works with fellow coach Dylan Bell. He conducts his workouts in the Village of Oak Creek, the track at Sedona Red Rock High School, and in Flagstaff and Prescott.

His journey in marathon running began with a finish time of 2:57, which spurred him to explore effective training techniques and adopt a high-carb vegan diet. Eicher’s commitment is rooted in a long-standing passion for athletics, which he cultivated while transitioning from a catering business to pursuing a degree in physical education from Grand Canyon University. He returned to his alma mater, Phoenix Christian High School, as a dedicated educator and coach after graduation.

This year, Eicher demonstrated his community spirit by raising nearly $1,500 for Special Olympics Arizona through a rappelling event in downtown Phoenix. “Our community is very supportive of teachers and coaches in endeavors like this,” he noted. “I hope that my participation in the marathon inspires students to see that their coaches are active and committed to health and fitness.”
