'Because we also rescued him, he's just paid it back and rescued me,' Scottsdale woman says dog alerted her to danger

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Do dogs know when their owners are in danger? Rebecca Barcy believes her dog, Jasper, certainly did on one fateful Tuesday night.

Rebecca never spends a day without Jasper, her loyal companion. On that particular evening, severe weather was barreling through northeast Scottsdale, precisely where her office is situated.

As Rebecca stepped out of her office room, she observed the weather outside behaving erratically, almost like a tornado. When attempting to return to her office, Jasper blocked the doorway, refusing to let her in.

“He was essentially herding me away from the door. I asked him, ‘Okay, what are we doing? Staying in the hall?'” Rebecca recalled.

Not long after, a loud noise erupted from her office. Rebecca discovered a large roof tile had detached and crashed through her office window, scattering shards of glass all over her desk and Jasper’s dog bed beneath it.

“I felt incredibly grateful, truly thankful that intuition isn’t misleading,” she said.

Reflecting on the incident, Rebecca can’t shake the feeling that Jasper sensed the impending danger and kept her safe.

“They have an awareness that we lack because we’re often preoccupied. We should listen to our animals. He likely thinks it’s his job, and I’m grateful it is,” Rebecca stated.

Jasper, a dog she rescued when he was five months old, proved to be a protector that night.

“He loves our family, and because we also rescued him, he’s repaid the favor by rescuing me,” she said.

This story underscores the unique bond between humans and their pets, highlighting the remarkable instincts animals possess.
