Scottsdale Christian and Pima Battle Their Way to 2A State Championship Showdown

MESA, Ariz. — The stage is set for a highly anticipated rematch in Arizona’s 2A high school football landscape. Last year’s champions, Scottsdale Christian, seek to defend their title against Pima, who are determined to avenge their loss.
Both teams advanced to the 2024 2A state championship game after competing in intense semifinal matches on Saturday at Westwood High School. Pima, the No. 3 seed, faced off against the No. 2 seed Tonopah Valley, who entered the playoffs with an impressive 10-0 record. Despite their dominant season, Tonopah Valley succumbed to Pima’s relentless play, falling 40-34.
Meanwhile, Scottsdale Christian, seeded No. 12, embarked on a Cinderella playoff journey, where they overcame the top-seeded San Tan Charter with a 34-21 win. This victory not only kept their hopes alive for back-to-back championships but also underscored their playoff experience.
The upcoming game marks Scottsdale Christian’s sixth appearance in a state championship, aiming for their fourth overall title. Their previous victories include championships in 1983 and 1989, alongside last year’s triumph.
Pima has a rich history, seeking its 11th state title after winning multiple championships in the past, including last year’s 2A title. This matchup will be significant, as it continues a competitive series where Pima leads 4-1 against Scottsdale Christian.
The 2A State Championship Game will kick off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, promising an exciting showdown between these two storied programs.
