Maricopa Unified School District Prepares for Leadership Changes
New leadership is on the horizon for the Maricopa Unified School District as their upcoming board meeting promises to introduce three newly elected members. This meeting, set for Wednesday, will also include the election of a president and vice president for one-year terms.
Current board president Robert H. Downey is nearing the end of his third term, while Patti Coutre steps down after serving as vice president since October 2023. It remains unclear whether they will seek another term.
During the recent November elections, Maricopa residents widely supported Carolyn Lopez in her bid to retain her appointed seat. Additionally, former board member Ben Owens will rejoin the board after securing a victory, while Shawnté Rothschild edged out former MUSD student Nicolas Yendrzeski for the last available position.
The board meeting will convene at the District Administration Offices located at 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, starting at 6:30 p.m.
