Santa Cruz Principal in Running for National Award with $10K Prize for District

Santa Cruz Elementary School’s Principal, Stephanie Rhinehart, has been nominated for the prestigious national LifeChanger of the Year award. This recognition honors K–12 educators who make a significant impact on students’ lives through excellence, positive influence, and leadership.
Rhinehart, who has served as principal for five years, has garnered attention for her empathetic leadership style. According to her anonymous nominator, she exemplifies a caring approach toward both staff and students. Her effective communication and commitment to professional growth for her employees stand out as hallmarks of her administration.
“She always speaks with her staff when they need encouragement or constructive feedback,” the nomination noted. Students also express their affection toward Rhinehart, often greeting her with hugs or high fives.
Support from parents and colleagues reinforces this praise. Mary Collazo, a parent, remarked, “Mrs. Rhinehart knows all of the kids’ names and genuinely cares about each student.” Meghan Bremer highlighted Rhinehart’s exemplary leadership during the hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “Every challenge that has come, she has conquered.” Under her guidance, the school achieved an “A” rating from the state last year.
Staff members have also acknowledged Rhinehart’s unwavering support. A transportation employee, Stacy, commented, “Ms. Rhinehart is the most supportive staff member I’ve worked with. She always shows her appreciation to the drivers.” Kindergarten paraprofessional Krystal Ash conveyed the community’s gratitude, declaring, “Ms. Rhinehart is a fantastic principal. She deserves this award for all her hard work.”
The LifeChanger of the Year program, sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation in Montpelier, Vermont, recognizes educators who enhance the learning environment and positively influence students. Each year, several awards are presented, including a Grand Prize that offers a $10,000 cash award to the winner and an additional $10,000 for their school or district.
Rhinehart’s nomination places her among 178 educators nationwide, including three from Arizona, a testament to her outstanding contributions to education.
