San Francisco 49ers Ricky Pearsall out of hospital 1 day after shooting during attempted robbery

Pearsall was released from the hospital less than 24 hours after being shot during an attempted robbery in San Francisco’s Union Square.

SAN FRANCISCO, California — Ricky Pearsall, the first-round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers, was discharged from San Francisco General Hospital on Sunday. He had been shot in the chest during an incident the previous day.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Geary Street and Grant Avenue. According to a statement from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), officers responded to reports of a shooting and found two individuals injured at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy from Tracy reportedly attempted to rob Pearsall. In the ensuing struggle, both the suspect and Pearsall were shot. Pearsall, 23, suffered a bullet wound to the chest, while the assailant is said to be in stable condition.

Mayor London Breed confirmed the quick response of law enforcement, stating that the shooter has been apprehended. “The suspect is in custody, and charges are pending,” the police department noted.

An active investigation is underway, and authorities urge anyone with information to call the SFPD tip line at 1-415-575-4444 or send a text to TIP411, starting the message with SFPD. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Pearsall, who played as a wide receiver at the University of Florida, was drafted by the 49ers on April 25 during the 2024 NFL Draft. The team expressed gratitude to the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, and the hospital staff involved in Pearsall’s care.
