Neighbors voice safety concerns after school bus and truck collide in Buckeye

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — A school bus carrying students was involved in a crash with a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon near Rainbow Road and Sundance Parkway. Emergency crews swiftly responded to the scene.

The Buckeye Police Department reported that eight students received evaluations from emergency responders, while three were transported to nearby hospitals for further care. The bus driver was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but thankfully, all are expected to fully recover.

Students on board were from the Buckeye Learning Center. Neighbors expressed their distress, noting that cries from the children could be heard soon after the impact. Rafael Zavala and Anthony Drummond, local residents, mentioned that accidents frequently occur at this intersection.

Drummond remarked, “You’d hear the tires squeal and then boom, you’d hear the loud bang from the car sliding and two cars colliding into each other. Like I said, it’s an everyday thing.” Meanwhile, Zavala pointed out that recent installation of stop signs on Rainbow Road aimed to create a four-way stop, yet he believes it’s not sufficient.

“It’s one of those situations where I don’t want another bus getting hit and God forbid it’s fatal,” Zavala expressed, highlighting the urgent need for more effective measures to ensure driver safety.

At this stage, authorities have not disclosed details about the cause of the crash or who may be at fault. This situation remains under investigation as news continues to develop.
