Rideshare passenger runs over driver several times, killing him, police say

PHOENIX — A tragic incident occurred in Phoenix involving a rideshare driver and passenger, resulting in the driver’s death. Police reported that a 31-year-old woman, Jordan Spalding, was arrested for running over her elderly passenger after an altercation during their ride.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of the crash involving 74-year-old Samuel Webster at around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday near 40th Street and Baseline Road. Upon arrival, officers found Webster suffering from severe injuries. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Initial investigations revealed that tension escalated between Spalding, a passenger, and Webster, the driver. Witnesses reported the car had come to a stop near a canal, prompting both individuals to exit the vehicle. In a shocking turn, Spalding reportedly got back into the driver’s seat and repeatedly struck Webster with the vehicle.

As a result of these actions, Spalding is now facing charges of second-degree murder. The police investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather information regarding the incident.
