Recycle in the new year

In a bid to enhance sustainability and community involvement in Phoenix, I Recycle Phoenix will host a recycling event at Christown Spectrum Mall on Saturday, January 11, from 7 a.m. to noon. This initiative encourages residents to responsibly dispose of various items while promoting environmental consciousness.

Participants can bring a range of materials for recycling and donation. Accepted items include electronic waste such as hard drives and laptops handled by Full Circle Electronics, gently used bicycles managed by Bike Saviours, and nonperishable food and housewares collected by Nourish Phoenix. Habitat for Humanity will also accept new and gently used furniture, appliances, and building materials. Further, residents can recycle soft plastic bags and bubble wrap with Recyclops and plastic yard signs through the City of Phoenix Public Works Department. Additionally, individuals can bring up to five boxes of personal documents for shredding by Friedman Recycling Companies.

Certain materials will not be accepted during the event, including CRT monitors, single-use batteries, light bulbs, prescription drugs, and any hazardous waste. For information on the proper disposal of these items, residents are encouraged to contact 602-262-6251 or visit the city’s official website regarding hazardous waste disposal.

The event will be conveniently located east of Target, with entry available off Montebello and 17th avenues. For further details about this recycling opportunity, individuals can visit the Keep Phoenix Beautiful website.
