Retire in Style: Discover the Luxurious Community Life at Splendido at Rancho Vistoso

When Minnesota resident Kate Haugh’s parents relocated to Splendido at Rancho Vistoso in Oro Valley, she was relieved. The 55-and-older community provided accommodations she felt assured of.
“My parents have been here since 2014 and it’s been fabulous,” Haugh remarked. “I’m navigating a challenging transition now with mom’s progressed needs after dad passed away. We’ve moved from independent to assisted living and now long-term care. It’s harder on me than her, but it’s the same caring people.”
Splendido at Rancho Vistoso offers a seamless transition from active living to end-of-life care. Owned by The Mather and Plaza Companies, this nonprofit facility is designed for comprehensive care.
Upon entering the main building, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking view of the Catalina Mountains.
The amenities include an indoor pool with water aerobics, an outdoor pool, a state-of-the-art gym, and a cafe. The basement houses meeting rooms, an art studio, three restaurants, and a grand piano available for residents to play.
“Even though you don’t think you need it as you age, there is nothing they won’t do for you,” said resident Linda Parish. “Generally, people here are happy.”
Parish spoke of the supportive community ready to help, particularly after she became a widow. “You don’t want to just sit here and hide,” she said. “The cafe is nice for a change, but my friends and I eat at Alonzo’s on Fridays, sometimes Sundays. People go out of their way for you.”
Splendido opened 18 years ago, and many original residents remain, reflecting the superior lifestyle. Gale Morgan, senior vice president of sales, emphasized the strong connections residents develop with the staff.
“A weekly housekeeper cleans the apartments and changes the bed linens,” Morgan noted, adding that residents can also enjoy spa services on-site.
Should the need arise, residents transition smoothly from independent living to assisted living or memory care at Sonora, Splendido’s health center.
Morgan explained, “We have independent homes and villas. When you move here, you maintain an active lifestyle but with support available at the Sonora Health Center. It’s Medicare-certified with skilled nursing, assisted living apartments, and memory-support suites.”
Residents choose between 90-day or unlimited care packages, offering peace of mind. Once settled, they can engage in numerous clubs and activities, or create new ones.
Morgan emphasized the community spirit, noting frequent volunteer efforts and fundraising for University of Arizona scholarships for staff and their children.
“Our team’s wellness coaching addresses the whole person—physical, social, and artistic needs. How can we help you find your purpose?” Morgan said.
Terrace and Villa Homes range from 850 to 3,000 square feet, priced between $250,000 and $1.5 million. Monthly fees average $3,900, with up to 90% refundable within 120 days.
Acceptants must have significant assets and good health. Monthly fees start at $6,000, covering long-term care, housekeeping, a culinary club plan, utilities, transportation, and groundskeeping.
A transition team assists new residents, creating space plans for moving. “Residents often bring artwork,” Morgan noted, emphasizing making new residents feel at home.
“Wellness is a personal journey,” said Morgan. “It’s a whole, all-inclusive life care program.”
